6 lifestyle changes for a happier YOU!

In all honesty, whether it’s a long day in the office, in the classroom or on the construction site, sometimes the last thing you want to do once you get home is cook a healthy meal or head to the gym. But, becoming a little more healthy doesn’t have to require too much effort. How? Well, there are many little changes that you can make TODAY, that will make a big difference over time.

Have a read of our top 6 easy-to-follow lifestyle changes that will help you lead a happier, healthier life!

1 – Goal setting – why are you doing this?

Do you want to lose a few inches? Would you like to get stronger? Do you want to eat healthier food? If you set yourself a goal, ensure that you are very specific. “Lose 1 inch around my waist in 6 weeks and squat an extra 10kg” is a lot better and easier to focus on than “lose weight and squat heavier weights”. Write your goal(s) down.

2 – How will you achieve the goal? PLAN OF ACTION!

Now you’ve decided on your goal, how are you going to get there? Will you be doing home workouts or going out for evening runs? Will you be joining a gym, starting a new programme or using a personal trainer? How about the food you’re eating? Again, be very specific. X amount of healthy meals per day and Y amount of workouts per week. Will you workout alone or with friends?

3 – Find someone to help you

Team work or working as a pair with a friend can really give you a boost when towards your goals. Find someone with similar goals to you where you can support each other throughout. Whether it’s the constant discussion of the progress you’re making, or the excitement of reaching your goals, having someone with a similar goal can be very helpful.

4 – Drink LOTS of water

We’ve talked about this plenty of times before, but consuming an adequate amount of water is vital for optimal health. However, it can also help reduce hunger levels, increase your alertness and reduce the feeling of being ‘sluggish’. Read more on the benefits of water by clicking here.

5 – Eat a balanced diet

You probably already guessed that it’d be on the list, but not eating a balanced diet will lessen the effect of all your other changes. Setting workout or running goals isn’t so great if you come home and eat a whole pizza. Eating well can help you feel more energetic and has some huge positive effects on your body! Try and track your calories and ensure you remain in a calorie deficit.

6 – Cardio isn’t always king

Going out for a run every night or hammering the treadmill in the gym each day might help you to start with, but it isn’t always the best or most efficient option. Alternating between cardio and weights can produce great results. Lifting weights will help you become stronger and allow your body to become more ‘toned’ due to increased muscle. In short, keep it varied – and don’t shy away from the weights!

We hope these 6 pointers will help you to get started. If you need a hand or if you would like a training plan putting together, feel free to drop us a message – we’re always more than happy to help!
