Whether from the tap at home, a water cooler at work or bottled water from the supermarket, water is all around us. But too many of us don’t consume as much as we need. This short blog looks at the main 5 reasons why we should drink more water!
1 – The body is made up of water
Nearly 85% of your brain is made up of water, with about 80% of your blood and 70% percent of your lean muscle also being made up of water. It makes sense to drink more.

2 – Soft drinks AREN’T hydrating you
Soft drinks are usually ladened with sugars, sweeteners and additives. Although they are a liquid, they aren’t going to hydrate you as well as water will. Replace your bottles and cans of soft drinks with water, and save on calories whilst hydrating yourself much more efficiently.
3 – It gives us energy!
Feeling tired is often one of the first signs of being dehydrated. The next time you begin to feel tired, drink a few glasses of water to top up on H20.
4 – Protecting our joints and cartilage
Water is needed by the joints in order to keep the cartilage around them hydrated; this ensures our joints remain lubricated. It’s said that the rubbery material that coats our bones – cartilage – is roughly 85% water. Therefore to keep it healthy we need to keep as hydrated as possible!
5 – Circulation and waste removal
Water is vital in the body. It helps carry nutrients and oxygen around the body, and also aids in digestion and the prevention of constipation.
Conclusion
It’s fairly easy to see just how important water is for our bodies. It’s often recommended that we drink 8 glasses of water per day, though individuals participating in exercise such as the gym, sports or running usually (need to) consume more.
