With new years resolutions in full swing, we thought we’d put together a few tips when it comes to losing weight – BUT more importantly, keeping it off!
Although these aren’t ‘official rules’, from our own personal experiences and those shared by friends in the fitness industry, we believe they are good to follow.
1 – Avoid quick-weight-loss, fad diets
Although you may feel great after losing 8 pounds in your first week, this won’t put your body in the best state moving forwards.
- Avoid slimming shakes (high in sugars etc, calories aren’t filling, etc.)
- Losing weight quickly and in an un-controlled fashion isn’t healthy in the long term
- Drastic weight loss can often lead to you to gain more weight after your initial weight loss
- Don’t rush in to a diet – all our bodies are different. Find what works for YOU!

2 – Instead.. eat real food!
We can’t emphasise this point enough. Real, whole foods beat any diet aimed at losing as much weight in as little time as possible.
- A good mix of fat, protein and carbs
- Keep it real; avoid too much processed food
- Lots of veggies too!
- Everything in moderation

3 – Avoid liquid meals
Meal-replacement shakes and pre-made bottled shakes are generally okay in times of desperation – just don’t make them a habit!
- You won’t feel as full
- May be lacking nutrients
- You may feel tired and fatigued
- Some meal replacement shakes can be super high in calories whilst being marketed as ‘healthy’
- HOWEVER – fruit and veg smoothies are a perfect snack and a tasty way of reaching your 5-a-day!

What can you do now? TODAY?
Follow the points above and you’ll be taking a step in the right direction. Also – set realistic goals:
- Give yourself enough time; are your goals realistic?
- Plan out your workouts / exercise
- Is your diet right matching your levels of exercise and vice-versa?
- Set your eyes on your goals and work on them EVERYDAY
