3 easy lunch box swaps to help you eat healthy

Whether you’re stuck thinking about eating never ending salads or you just can’t stand the thought of reducing carbs, simply starting can be tough.

Sometimes the best way to approach healthy eating is by making small changes that you can stick to. Do this, instead of drastic changes, and you’ll be on to a winner.

We’ve put together 3 ‘lunch box swaps’ that will lead to a healthier you:

1 – Swap out your biscuits with rice cakes

We all know how easy it is to reach into the biscuit tin when we’re a little peckish. Even more so when at work. But the amount of calories that can soon add up is scary; they’re so easy to rack up.

Also, the lack of fibre in the often-refined flours and sugars can cause problems with your digestive system.

For less calories and a happier stomach, try rice cakes. Add fat free greek yoghurt and berries on top for a vitamin and protein-kick if you’re feeling the need to munch.

Why rice cakes? They are generally low in calories and can be filling for the amount of calories they contain due to their size. Plus, you’ll tend to feel fuller from eating a stack of rice cakes vs a stack of biscuits!

2 – Replace your chocolate bars with fruit or protein bars

If you have a chocolate bar most days of the week, then swapping them out for something healthier should bring good results with it. Fruit is not only tasty but packs fibre to keep you full, hydrates you and provides plenty of vitamins and minerals.

Slice up your favourite fruits and throw them in a small tupperware box. Store in the fridge. Eat when you want to snack or take to work with you. This can help take away your sugar craving

Alternatively, why not opt for a high protein bar instead? It will take away the sugar craving as well as getting in some protein for the day and helping you feel fuller!

3 – Drink fruit-infused water or homemade ice-tea instead of soft drinks

Not only are soft drinks full of sugars, they can also lead to your body being more dehydrated than before drinking them. Plus, they’re full of wasted calories.

You can soon rack up calories without even realising.

Buy an infuser, or even better, brew your favourite tea and then let it cool to room temperature. Then add some ice cubes and let it sit in the fridge. Ice tea off the shelf is a no-go as it more often than not contains silly amounts of sugar.

But before you do this..

Just remember, we aren’t saying you should never eat biscuits or chocolate, and never drink soft drinks. Everything in moderation. Even better if you fit it within your daily calorie intake!

However, if you do replace these throughout the week, it all soon adds up and will definitely help you lose weight. Overall, ensure you do treat yourself to the foods you like every now and then!
