As you’ll see in photos around our website, we’re different to your ‘typical gym’. No machines. We’ve stripped everything back to the basics – barbells and dumbbells. The same goes for our training. We use methods that have been tried, tested and proven time and time again to be effective.

Barnsley Barbell is different to your average commercial gym. Personal training with the added privacy and peace of mind that no one is judging you.


Our bootcamps are for all ages, abilities and levels of experience, our bootcamps are ideal for weight loss, strength building and improving confidence. A mix of indoor and outdoor weight-based including weight and cardio exercises.


We specialise in coaching Powerlifting movements: squat, bench press and deadlift.


Learn Olympic Weightlifting and perfect your technique with a qualified coach at Barnsley Barbell.


On Saturday afternoons at 12.30pm we run a 90 minute strongman training session for all levels of experience.


Located in Oakwell, Barnsley, we’re easy to find. We also have free secure parking right outside.

The Barnsley Barbell Way

As with any gym or coach, we have our own way of doing things. In a nutshell, at Barnsley Barbell we have a client-focused outlook. We were once on your side of the table. All our decisions are based around YOU. That’s why:

  • We have no joining fees, no contracts and no tie-ins

  • We buy new equipment and make changes that you have suggested

  • We offer a friendly, professional and reliable service using proven methods.

Whilst we have set days and times each week for our bootcamps, we don’t have actual opening times. This is because we don’t run as a regular gym – unfortunately you can’t turn up and train whenever.

Instead, we operate as a private training facility where you can book 1-to-1 or small group training sessions.

Everything is basic when it comes to policies. We don’t have any strict rules as we are two friendly guys passionate about fitness – not commercial giants chasing you for your money.

However, in regards to our personal training we do have a 24 hour cancellation policy. If you cancel your session with us within 24 hours, you will be expected to pay half of the session price. If the cancellation falls within 12 hours of the session starting, you will be expected to pay the full price of  the session.

Whilst we absolutely love what we do, we must also run ‘as a business’ and it unfortunately is still our time being used up as we struggle to re-book the hour out to someone else with such short notice.

There are no commitments. You can come to our bootcamps as little or as often as you like, and the same goes for private sessions.

We put ZERO pressure on you. Do as you please. We want to help you as much as we can but you are definitely never tied into anything.

We’ve both been members of commercial gyms before where we’ve been tied in to lengthy contracts – and thats one of the reasons we don’t do that here at Barnsley Barbell.
